Dear Members,

New police powers and fines; tighter restrictions for LGAs of Concern

The NSW Government has announced that, from 12.01 am on Friday 30 July, tighter restrictions will apply to the eight LGAs of concern.

Stricter mask rules will apply, which require people to wear a mask any time they leave the house.

Further, residents can only move within a 5km radius of their home, reduced from 10km.

These restrictions will apply to the eight LGAs outlined below:

  • Fairfield
  • Cumberland
  • Liverpool
  • Canterbury-Bankstown
  • Blacktown
  • Parramatta
  • Georges River
  • Campbelltown

Further, NSW Police will also be given additional powers to close a public premise, worksite, workplace, or a business if they continue to ignore public health orders.

The penalty for not wearing a mask when required will be increased from $200 to $500.

Police will increase compliance and presence beyond current levels.
